This week (4-10 November) marks Living Wage Week in the UK, a nationwide celebration of the real Living Wage and Living Hours movement. As an accredited Living Wage and Real Living Hours employer, CHAP is proud to support fair pay and secure work arrangements for our team. This commitment reflects our belief that everyone deserves a decent standard of living from the work they do. By ensuring that each of our employees is paid fairly and has dependable work hours, we’re directly contributing to a healthier, more resilient community in North Ayrshire.
The Real Living Wage is calculated based on the actual cost of living, covering essentials like housing, utilities, food, and more. In a time when many households face financial challenges, paying a real Living Wage makes a genuine difference, giving people the freedom to focus on their families, careers, and well-being without the stress of financial insecurity.
For employers, adopting the Real Living Wage and Real Living Hours has significant benefits too. Offering fair pay and reliable hours builds loyalty and fosters a positive workplace culture where staff feel valued and respected. It also strengthens local communities, as better-paid employees can support local businesses and invest in their future. We’ve seen first-hand how being a Living Wage employer helps us attract skilled, dedicated people who share our commitment to social impact.
We encourage other employers to consider joining the Living Wage movement. By investing in your employees’ financial security and well-being, you’re investing in the growth and success of your organisation - and the community as a whole.
If you’d like to show your support, you could use your own social media channels to spread the word about the #LivingWageWeek campaign and by liking and sharing our messages throughout the week. Our Facebook, Twitter/X and Instagram links can be found at the bottom of the page.
