Education

The education department within the organisation was formed in 2005. CHAP has been commissioned by North Ayrshire Council to deliver a programme of Homelessness Education lessons to pupils in all of the 9 secondary schools across North Ayrshire.

The aims of the lessons are to prevent youth homelessness, raise awareness of the reality of homelessness and to destigmatise the issue. It is intended the lessons will encourage young people to carefully consider their options before taking the decision to leave home and to enable them to identify who would be able to assist them with housing issues. The lessons are primarily delivered to all fourth year pupils within North Ayrshire. However, workshops style events can be delivered to senior pupils, one focused on student accommodation and the skills/knowledge that young people would require if living away from home and the other further explores the different tenancy options that are available to young people and the responsibilities of having a tenancy.

Multiply

Background

Multiply is a UK government funded initiative with a £560 million budget aimed at enhancing the numeracy skills of adults across the UK over a three-year period from 2022 to 2025.

The goal is to significantly increase the number of individuals completing high-quality skills training by 2030 in every region of the UK. Multiply seeks to improve people’s ability to understand and use mathematics in their daily lives - both at home and in the workplace.

This includes supporting learners to:

  • increase their confidence with numbers
  • upskill in order to access a certain job/career
  • increase their numeracy skills to help their children/grandchildren
  • use numeracy to better manage their money

The CHAP Multiply Project

This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council’s Community Learning & Development team, CHAP have established a range of accessible courses and workshop sessions providing additional support to help people with numeracy skills, budgeting and financial literacy.

Our courses and sessions are open to anyone over 16 years of age and living in North Ayrshire.

Boosting Confidence with Numbers - Understanding numbers can be tricky, especially when it comes to finances. That’s why our friendly and knowledgeable team is here to help you build confidence in managing bills, understanding income, and planning for the future. The Multiply Project is all about multiplying your confidence with numbers.

Taking Control of Finances - Budgeting is crucial for financial stability. Our advisers provide personalised guidance to help you create realistic budgets, manage expenses effectively, and take control of your finances. Let us help you ‘multiply’ your ability to budget wisely for a more secure future.

Making Informed Choices - We dive deep into financial literacy, offering workshops and one-to-one sessions to enhance your understanding of saving strategies, banking, and more. The goal is to ‘multiply’ your opportunities and empower you to make informed financial choices aligned with your goals.

An important element of the sessions is letting the group participants engage with each other, swapping their experiences of money issues, credit cards and sharing money saving tips for the benefit of those taking part.

For those who don't feel comfortable in a group setting, we are also able to offer one-to-one support. This can involve budgeting advice, numeracy advice keeping a spending diary, etc.

So, whether you need help with numeracy, budgeting, or financial literacy our team is ready to guide you.

Join us in multiplying your potential for a brighter, more financially secure future.
