It was also revealed that on a local level, Council Tax Reductions are the most underclaimed benefit; with £2.8 billion going unclaimed by 2.7 million people, meaning that those people are on average paying over £1,000 per year more than they need to.
The main reasons for these benefits going unclaimed is believed to be a combination of the complexity of the welfare system, people’s lack of awareness regarding their rights, and what support is available to them, and the stigma that still exists around claiming benefits.
At CHAP, our core value is that no one should be disadvantaged through lack of knowledge or awareness in relation to their rights. We are also working hard to address the stigma surrounding money-related issues.
As such, we have developed several outreach facilities throughout North Ayrshire. These are aimed at taking our services out into the community, in already trusted and established environments, where people feel more comfortable accessing help. At these venues, our fully trained, friendly advisers can provide a whole host of advice and support to individuals relating to the benefits they might be entitled to. We can check your benefit eligibility, help you to make the initial claim, and help you to challenge any unfavourable decisions – we can even provide representation for you at tribunals to make sure your voice is heard.
Our advisers are also experienced in helping with complex housing and debt issues. Please check out the various areas of the website to find out what help we can provide.
These outreach venues include:
The old saying goes, ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’. There is literally nothing to lose by checking what you might be eligible to claim. We can’t guarantee anything, but we are here to help you through the process. In the last year, we helped to put almost £2 million into the pockets of local residents in North Ayrshire. You no longer have to miss out.
To book an appointment with one of our advisers either in our office, in one of our outreach venues, or over the phone, please get in touch. You can call us for free on 030 002 0002, email adviceandinfo@chap.org.uk, or contact us through the live chat on the website.
