In Budget 2021, the government confirmed that the temporary £20 per week increase to the universal credit standard allowance - introduced in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic - is to be extended for a further six months in Great Britain on top of the planned April uprating and that the measure will apply to all new and existing universal credit claimants.
As a result, the DWP has confirmed the new Universal Credit standard monthly allowance from April 2021:
Universal Credit claimants should also be aware that North Ayrshire Council will increase rent costs from April 2021. Tenants will normally be advised by letter of the increase. Claimants must inform Universal Credit of the increase to the rent cost, by contacting their work coach through their online journal. If claimants fail to do this their entitlement to housing element may not continue to cover the full rent charge leading to rent arrears.
